First Enchanter Orsino _DA II by MissSelfDestruct First Enchanter Orsino _DA II by MissSelfDestruct
FULL VIEW, PLEASE! DOWNLOAD FOR MORE DETAIL!

!FINALLY! ^____^

My homage to one of my favourite video game characters :)

Some of you may recognise it as the colour version/rework of this : [link]
I realise that I could have put a lot more time into painting this (compare the detail of his face with the 'detail' of his clothing), but I've decided that I want to move on.

All that said, I'm really happy with how this came out :)
This is in many ways a milestone for me- my first fully-digital piece of art; my first EVER portrait of a human(oid) that hasn't ended in total derpy disaster (I hope so, lol), among others.
I'm especially content with the irides of his eyes- they were fun to do and surprisingly easy to paint in a realistic fashion.

I might work a little more on this some day, maybe paint a proper background.

PLEASE, leave me some feedback. All critique will be welcome and appreciated. I am a complete novice and I hope to, one day, be able to create pieces better than this in a fraction of the time. And yes, this has been heavily referenced from a screenshot :F n00b, remember?

I've used two custom brushes, links to which are here:

He's had such lovely eyes. I overall liked his appearance, to his face, his body structure and the clothes and staff they gave him. I wonder where he got that staff?
and he's all daddylike to all the mages under his care.
That's why it's so irritating and senseless that he goes all crazy at the end. XP

Yay Orsino! I was about to draw some fan art of him today as well.
Very recognizable, but the lines seem really messy around the rest. It's also hard to tell a light source, but that aside it looks awesome.

looks even sadder now :P Like a sad kitty.

Now, about the coloring, it looks like it's an in-game render, which on one hand is good, because you've managed to achieve great likeness, but on the other hand, the skin doesn't look as realistic this way.

He's supposed to look sad/worried :)

Yeah, I realise that. I tried to find a nice texture that would help me fix this, but it didn't work out too well. I'm still an absolute beginner when it comes to colouring, or art in general.

My mother said he has to few wrinkles... I told her she's just jealous :XD:

Orsino! He looks really really good; love the expression and the colors. For your next piece, I'd try pushing the contrast more. The painting is good, but some really deep shadows and really light highlights will make him pop better. Right now, everything is more or less on an even value. (and contrast is something I struggle with too, so don't worry about it ;))

And all artists use references, even the experienced ones. ;) So no one should fault you for that.

Thank you! I love a constructive comment :)

The contrast actually used to be higher, but I pushed it down because I liked the final result more this way. I will keep that in mind, though, and experiment more the next time. Maybe a better background will go better with higher contrast (here we have no idea where the light is)

Thanks again, I really appreciate that.

You're welcome! :) I'm glad you noticed about the contrast, and I think you're right about the background. A darker one will make him stand out more. :)

Looking forward to seeing more! :D

Wowsers!
Umm.. since I know nothing of digital drawing/painting, did you use one of those (I really have no clue:) "drawing-board-thingies" or is this mousework?
Anyway, human(oid) face might be the one most difficult thing to draw/paint right, for me at least. Really good job.

Thanks!
Yes, I did use one of these thingies ;) A pen tablet it's called. Mine's pretty old and sucky, but it still is WAY better than a mouse. And there were times when I used the other one, too.

I'm *really* surprised and happy that his face came out the way it did.

Should probably try one of those "Tablets" some time, I've seen lots of cool stuff drawn thru those.
But yeah, really good face, indeed! Though I have no idea what the dude really looks, I guess I'd recognise him from now on :)

You should :) They take some getting used to, but can be great and powerful tools.

Haha! My mother says he doesn't have enough wrinkles... I think she's just jealous :XD:

This is really good. I think you should have been hired to do the artwork for the Origins characters who appeared in DA2 rather than the army of monkeys who apparently did do them X(

Thank you, this is food for my vanity ^^
I tried to do my best (with his face, at least).

Also, thanks for the watch and, OMG, all the favs!

Yeah, all the faves look a little sucky... it's just that it's not too common for my interest in Dragon Age to cross over with my interest in urban photography, so when I saw your profile I geeked out massively. Why don't *I* ever find mannequins in the street???

I just love the first enchanter. The coloring on this is amazing as is the similarity between him and the game. Wonderful work in my mind.

Like I wrote in the description, it's *heavily* referenced, but I've still learned a lot by making it and I'm really happy with how it came out.
And thanks for the fav ^-^

You're very welcome! He's becoming yet another favorite of mine so seeing artwork of him just makes my day :D

And while it might be *heavily* referenced, I admire people who can take what they see and are able to reproduce it with their own talent. I can look at something but if I were to try and draw it, the end result would be something horrific :XD: I might be able to recreate it with words (as in describing what something looks like), but not with pictures, since I can't draw worth a crap lol.

You'd need to see all the development stages to see that you, too, are capable :XD:
But thanks again.

And literary talent is a beautiful gift.
Make sure you let me know if you ever decide to write something with Orsino in it... :3

Oh believe me, I will... sadly enough it might somewhat revolve around his comment about following Hawke out to the meetings if she were to decide to dance naked to fit in... *has a naughty mind*
