Arrows by MissSelfDestruct Arrows by MissSelfDestruct
A set of arrows (one missing on the photo :p) that I made a while ago. I still really like how they turned out (especially regarding that I was on an accidental, week-long bad trip -chemistry lab possibly gone wrong and then a trip to the pub - while making these), so I thought I'd share :)

Sorry about the size of the photo. I like how the arrows look on this one, but can't seem to find the full-sized copy anywhere (I'll keep on looking and possibly replace this one).

Tell me what you think :D

Those are GORGEOUS. Did those shafts and feathers come looking like that? What did you use to wrap them with?

How do you get the feathers to be so ridged? Or are these store-bought?

They look great. :) I wish my arrows were as awesome looking as that! But I just have my dad buy mine at the store. I can't make arrows. XD But these look nice. :)

I know exactly how you feel... :(
I have a wooden recurve, two really nice sets of wooden arrows (including the one I made and never shot), an awesome leather side quiver and essentially all other necessary equipment but not a place to shoot. There are at least 5 archery clubs, but there's very difficult access to them and I can't reach them but in a car (and I don't drive myself of have a willing driver).
I spent some (short) time shooting in my old college fields, with an assistant principal as my coach (rarely, as he was a very busy guy) and i was pretty good at it. Now, I've not shot a single arrow for a year.
Every time I draw my bow indoors I have this terrible urge to shoot it - even though I'm standing in front of a closed window.

Sorry about the rant. This is really frustrating stuff ;p

It sure is :D I guess I'm lucky to have some family-owned forest where I can even shoot with firearms..just so far away I can't get myself to go there very often. When I was kid I was about to move there permanently. Still not a bad idea, actually :D

I wish I lived somewhere further from the city, or at least that I could travel freely...

Speaking of archery clubs, I just did some reasearch on google and found an easily-accessible one close to where I live. Except that it's led by muslims and there is "COMPLETE MALE AND FEMALE SEGREGATION WITH SEPARATE ENTRANCE"

Please, hold me. I want to cry.

Whew, finally stopped laughing.. *ahem*
but think about all those decadent influences you could get if bowing in company of men! Horrible.

I know, the thought of it is terrifying! And they... they would look at me!
...

Can you imagine a headscarf getting caught on an arrow? I'd piss myself laughing. That's probably why they segregate them, so they don't have to wear those. Or maybe so the boys aren't *forced* to sexually assault any of the girls because they saw an outline of a buttock thanks to all that obscene... -motion-.

All that loosely hanging cloth was what I had in mind, too.. and aiming through that tiny peephole.
Hmh..then again, those dudes may not want to be around when badly-treated females got projectile weapons in their hands. I wouldn't.

I'd love to see that. An all-muslim-women uprising, all with scythian bows/longbows, Lord of the Rings-style.

Have to say your track of thought is admirably unpredictable :DD

And yes, that's quite an effective image.

A shame it broke, it was staring to looks really good! ( and, oh dear, BIG)

A dream of mine is to one day get a a proper, top-shelf hungarian composite bow. Because I'm a girl and these things are absolutely, blastedly beautiful in my opinion. And handy. And light. And.... Ohhhh, I'll stop now :p

Oh yes they are..I've got an old aluminium body recurve bow I started with (which I haven't shot for over 10 years..damn) but then I got this obsession for that huge leg-assisted killing machine and for past six months I've been reading kilometers of theory for bowmaking. Looking forward for that proper ashtree bow and after that, crossbow.
Which really sucks is that I don't have a place to shoot either..damn city life x/

These look really good, happen to have pic of the other ends?
I have a longbow project going on (made from old wooden skis x/ ) and should soon start planning on the arrows for it.. never done those before.

Thanks, I'm glad you like them! They're the first arrows I've ever made and I really enjoyed the process. I have NOWHERE to shoot, so I haven't tested them yet... :(

sorry about the late response, I've been experiencing problems with dA and only now realised it's Chrome's fault.

I'll take a photo for you and post it in a comment. They're black steel field points.
Make sure you post pictures of the bow :) If I ever get a compound I'll customise it to look very industrial/post-apocalyptic and make a matching set of arrows for it.

Speaking about post-apocalypse.. my original goal was to make a HUGE bow, that'd be used same way as in the opening scene of Book of Eli, with the bow horizontally behind feet.
And it was supposed to fold for easier carrying.
Bloody skis just broke on my first stretch :D
So, now I'm making a solid "only 2 meters long" version first, and once I practice with it, I'll get proper wood for that killer thingie..

I haven't seen Book of Eli, was it any good?
I have a takke-down recurve bow, but something that you could fold on the go would be fantastic!
You wanted to make a bow out of skis... Are you sure you mean a longbow and not a flatbow? That unless the skis were really thick :) (a thought a longbow's cross-section was round)

Found this old pic from December, you can see how huge it would've been: [link]

That was to be properly recurved, one I'm making now of the parts would be some kind of flatbow-longbow-bastard. It's quite, but not entirely like traditional Siberian two-layered bows but just straight.. so.. damn, well, it's made of skis, I'm happy if I can get it bent enough for a string, okay?? xD
